But I’m not.. part 2

“Oh lord! Ify look at this message” Chioma says as she passes the phone over to Ifeoma.

“But that’s your husband to be, maybe he just sent that to get your attention. You of all people should know Fola better.” Ifeoma responds.

“Attention? I don’t think it’s attention seeking Ify. What if he knows what is going on? Chioma asks scared.

“Babe, calm down. You’re over-reacting. Pregnancy is a gift from God so be happy. Except there’s something you’re not telling me.” Ifeoma teases.

“Have you ever been pregnant for the Holy Spirit?” Chioma questions rolling her eyes.

“Well no. But it’ll be really nice to have a baby for the most high. The alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end..” Ifeoma says and burst into laughter.

“I don turn comedy show to you Shebi? You think it’s funny.” Chioma asks rhetorically holding on to a laughter.

“Okay, what about the company’s dinner? Did anything happen between you and you know who.” Ifeoma asks in an almost whisper.

Chioma began to reminisce the Christmas dinner/end of year party in Oriental hotel at Lekki hosted by the company she works for - Oceanic Ltd. It was a beautiful night where she wore a black long dress which accentuated her petite body, she had her hair packed in a pony tail which helped reveal her perfect jaw line and Ify made sure to put enough make up making her look like a rare copy of Agbani Darego. She drew the attention of many that evening excellently.

Olatunde was not an exception as his eyes were captured on Chioma all through the night. Olatunde, tall, dark and averagely good looking. Yes he’s just on the average. His charisma and carriage gave him headsway over being more than average. Everything he wore was well suited on him, virtually all the women in Oceanic ltd crushed on him.

Being the General Manager made everyone easily accessible to him. He wasn’t just the G.M, he was also the CEO’s nephew. Baba kon get mouth die!

She remembered him walking up to her and talking. A few minutes became a few hours. Eating, laughing, dancing and gisting together all through the event.

It wasn’t far fetched that Olatunde offered Chioma a ride home. But all Chioma could remember was waking up alone in Olatunde’s bed the next morning in different clothes. And ever since then, it’s been her thought versus Olatunde’s words.  they never spoke much about and after that night!

After her dress fitting exercise, she replied Fola’s text saying ‘Alright babe, I’ll be at your place soon.”

She wondered what was so important that he had to send that message, I mean ‘does he already know that I’m pregnant? But how would he know though? I just got the result today! It’s probably concerning the wedding. Is he having cold feet already?’ All sorts of thoughts kept running through Chioma’s mind as she sat in Fola’s living room waiting for him. Normally, she would be in his bedroom or in the kitchen eating or drinking something from the fridge but this particular day came with all shades of weird! too weird

Fear rose inside of her as she heard his voice calling ‘Chioma, babe!” Just as he descended from the staircase.

“Babe are you okay?” Fola asked as he walked up to her.

Fola, the guy with a pure heart. Even after dating for two and a half years before they got engaged, she still loved him like the first day. He was tall, quite tall for Chioma’s height, with a caramel dripping skin, good looking, great job and from a well to do home. Who wouldn’t want a man like that? His soft hold of her right hand brought her back from oblivion.

“Yeah I’m fine baby, just stressed. You know how these things are.” Chioma says.

“I guess so. So how was the dress fitting?” Fola asks smiling.

“Er? What dress?” Chioma askes utterly confused.

“Your wedding dress fitting, or weren’t you at the designer’s place?” Fola askes equally confused and wondering why she looked so distracted.

“Oh yeahhhh! It was good, the girls looked amazing. Sorry, I’ve been so pre-occupied.” “So what is it you wanted to talk about that is so important. Is something wrong?” Chioma asks.

“Oh about the text message, I was worried you weren’t picking my calls all day but I figured you were so busy. Sorry if the message scared you a bit...” he said smiling before continuing “it’s about my mum, she’s not well...

Just as he’s about to explain his mum’s health situation. A text message pops up on his phone directing him to a link, indicating how important it is for him to check it.

“Hold on a minute, I just got a message, it might be from the office.” Fola says.

Chioma who is a bit relieved that it was something totally different from the trauma she was going through heaves a sigh.

“What’s this? Chioma, take a look at this” Fola says as his mood takes a turn around and hands over the phone to her.

Chioma who sees her name at the top of the picture displayed on the phone takes a deep breath and wipes her face.

Lo and behold, it was her pregnancy result! Not just one but from the three hospitals she visited that morning..

How would Chioma get out of this situation?
